About Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is the administration of strong medications in order to eradicate a particular type of cancer. The medications vary for each diagnosis and may be administered orally or injected into a muscle or vein.

Many patients receive chemotherapy in our offices. A specially designed "non-clinical" living room area is available for chemotherapy treatment in comfortable and pleasant surroundings. Specially trained registered nurses administer the chemotherapy according to a schedule established by your physician. When your treatment is completed, you are free to return to your home.

Some chemotherapy treatments must be administered in the hospital setting where you may be required to stay overnight. Again, this depends upon the type of cancer you have and the type of therapy prescribed by your physician.

The length and frequency of your chemotherapy is also determined by the type. Chemotherapy may be given daily, weekly, or monthly. Sometimes chemotherapy is given in cycles that include rest periods.
